Since we’re talking about covers (though everyone will probably be sorry the topic was brought up, as I can talk about it pretty much forever!), and also cleavage (this woman has her share), I’ll go ahead and post my latest cover. Since it’s the newest, it’s also therefore my favorite, but I love it for the colors and the “headless character” image. I’m a sucker for those.
Amanda:
You’re just showing off because you _have_ more than one cover. Now if we had a contest about who had more items of black clothing…
But this one is gorgeous, just the type of cover that makes me want to pick a book up. I’ll post mine eventually, too, but I haven’t figured out how to do it. I am _so_ challenged when it comes to this stuff.
Amanda,
I love this cover. Beautiful and a nice sense of mystery. Goes well with the title.
Megan,
When you post, there’s a little picture icon you click and follow the directions. If you have trouble, just email me. And you probably do win on how many items of black clothing. See, you are sophisticated, because you can wear them and look chic as opposed to funereal! 🙂

On the subject of cleavage, let’s talk about male cleavage. Oh, why not. Have you noticed how covers get men’s shirts all wrong??? Unbuttoned down to the waist to show off those pecs etc. (Yawn. I have to admit pics of men on covers do nothing for me tho I’m not averse to say, the amazing calendars published by the French rugby team, of course you know what I mean, those amazing arty b/w pics of beautiful naked, and I do mean naked men–Dieux de Stade, I think. Takes deep breath.) To return to my original subject, I find the idea of the shirt placket, the tantalizing curl of hair, knob of collarbone etc. extremely attractive.
Or does this just make me a female perv?
Janet
Not going to comment, Janet, on your perverseness. 😉 Hmmm…you know, “perverseness” makes you sound contrary. How about perviosity? Perviciousness? Peradventurousness? Perforation? Perfection? 🙂
Okay, sorry, I’m better now. I need more of Megan’s coffee, I fear. (Just kidding! I’m a tea drinker.)
Cara
I think the Smart Bitches blog (which I love) says it all–no more man-titties. :))
I do confess to ogling those French rugby team pics, though. And looking at Orlando Bloom and Gerard Butler websites in search of shirtless photos when I’m supposed to be writing. Now you know my dark secret–I’m a perverse female procrastinator. I also own a huge quantity of black clothing. Maybe not as much as Megan, but I’d bet I’m close…
Yeah, shaved pecs (or is it pects?) don’t do that much for me.
It’s odd because I like the woman’s head cut off covers but not the men’s. I think in the case of the heroine, I assume she has a brain, and the fact that her face isn’t shown emphasizes her sexuality and creates mystery. In the case of the naked-male-torso covers (apologies to all the people who rave about them) the mystery is whether there’s a brain and personality to go with the muscles?
That’s why I love some of Jo Beverley’s covers. The men look intelligent as well as gorgeous.
Very, very nice, Megan! A really lovely cover.
Men…I do love them with their clothes on (on the covers!). I particularly like the Regency period formal dress on men…or the driving coats with all the capes. The fashion emphasizes the shoulders, I guess. If he is casually dressed or mussed, that’s okay too if it suits the scene…it can look so sensual.
I think the key for me is that the dress should suit the scene. If the gentleman’s shirt is off, it should be off for an obvious reason.
