Although I am not nearly as ambitious as Elena, who is GOING to have written 50,000 words in the month of November (right, Elena?), I am on my own little path to goaldom.
By the end of this weekend, I hope to type “The End,” and really mean it.
In the course of writing this book, I have discovered I can indeed write the kind of tortured dark hero I thought was above my talent; that my heroine has got a sharp temper; that John Donne’s poems make some delightful foreplay; and that my hero and heroine have strong opinions on how important choice, and the lack of it, is.
So. Here I am. While I anticipate that glorious moment, I am also thinking about holidays, and gifts, and such; what gift would you choose to reward yourself for a job well-done (or at least well-ended)? What are you hoping for this holiday season? What am I hoping for this holiday season? And what completed project has brought you the greatest satisfaction?
Hey, I just did it. 50251 words and about 12 hours before the deadline. ๐
I know you will get there, too. And the book sounds sooo intriguing. I have a good feeling about it just from what you said.
As for rewards, I’m planning a shopping trip with a friend which will include a DSW stop. I really want to replace my black dress boots. I fear Stacy and Clinton would toss them into the can!
50251 words and about 12 hours before the deadline.
Congratulations, Elena!!! You rock!!!
And Megan — I’m still trying to figure out the link between that pic and your post… ๐
Cara
My heroine is modeled after Maggie Gyllenhaal, and I have some photos of her, so I thought I’d post one.
She did a whole bunch of photos in an ad campaign for Agent Provocateur, a fabulous (and fabulously pricy) lingerie line.
And she lives in my neighborhood, which is cool.
CONGRATULATIONS, ELENA!
I was just lusting after a pale blue bra-and-panty set from Agent Provacateur in a magazine! Do you ever see Maggie/boyfriend/baby walking around the neighborhood? ๐
I want to finish a proposal before next weekend. Then, if I sell it, maybe I can buy that blue lingerie. ๐
Yay Elena!!!!
Yay, Elena and Megan. You gals are FINISHERS!!
I finished my SECOND set of revisions for Pomroy’s story (still untitled) the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and I just heard that my editor approved them. Whew.
I have no idea what to reward myself with. Methinks I reward myself too often.
Megan, way cool that Maggie G lives in YOUR neighborhood. What’s up with your new house?
I have yet to see Maggie roaming the nabe; I saw Steve Buscemi yesterday, and John Turturro last week.
So I am chock full of character actor sightings, no leading lady sightings yet.
As for our house, it’ll be at least a coupla months before it’s completed, but they are working on the masonry for the third floor, what will be our bedroom. Yay! And our new w/d and dw arrived. Yay, yay!
And I have to pack, at some point. Boo.
Steve Buscemi?
My kids would DIE to see him. He’s been a favorite of theirs for years.

with-Herb Alpert
(and most of you don’t even know who he is)
not only that, Diane, but most times I see him he checks me out–I read an article that says he’s a sucker for women in glasses.
He lives a block from me.
Great pic of you, Megan and congrats on the almost finish. Big congrats to Elena too!
Hey, Megan! I think you should reward yourself with an ice cold beer and an in depth conversation with your soon-to-be-new-BFF.
Seriously? I always go out to dinner when I’ve finished a book. We go to my favorite restaurant, and the owner kisses both my cheeks and brings me homemade lemoncello. OH, and he lets me bang the gong, so it feels like a real celebration.
PS. I hope your heroine does not have the boobs of her model, or if she does, I hope she hikes her girls up where they belong. Just saying.
Tracy MacNish
My heroine has lovely boobs, Tracy, thanks for asking. Much, much larger than mine, and the hero slavers after them. Wish fulfillment much?
Yeah, just saying.
Woohoo, Elena! You owned NaNoWriMo!
Megan, Steve Buscemi rocks, and obviously has great taste, too. John Turturro is one helluva actor as well. They’re both used frequently by the Coen brothers, whose movies I generally like a lot, although I haven’t seen the new one yet.
Maggie Gyllenhall was my favorite part of Stranger Than Fiction, a film I really wanted to like but couldn’t because despite the loads of talent involved in the film I was always aware of the story’s contrivances.
THE END is a fabulous present to give yourself. I love tall, dark and tortured, so bring him on!
Hey, I know who Herb Alpert is!! That just makes me old whereas the Divine Ms. G is simply ageless!! I got my GH in the mail today!!! (Bows and says several ‘We are not worthy’s’ to the Divine One. My reward will be to read Anna Campbell’s latest UNTOUCHED. And perhaps buy one of the research books on my WISH LIST!!! By the way, Anna C’s nickname is ‘LaCampbell’ like ‘LaCallas’ as in Maria Callas. (the Divine singer? The Divine Melba. Anyone know who she is?? Opera pop quiz!!
Hey, I know who Herb Alpert is!! That just makes me old whereas the Divine Ms. G is simply ageless!! I got my GH in the mail today!!! (Bows and says several ‘We are not worthy’s’ to the Divine One.
Sigh. I’m not sure I want to be ageless. Not for another 20 years, at least. But at least now I know you, doglady, are ageless, too. Now, if I said I was kissed by Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders, do you know who HE is? (Hint: he did not sing opera)
WHEN you final in the Golden Heart, you may bow to me. But not before.
Am I now ageless because I know who Herb Albert, Maria Callas and Mark Lindsey are?
Elena – YOU GO GIRL!
Doglady – Fantabulous!!
Megan – I love your neighborhood! Brooklyn ROCKS!
Am I now ageless because I know who Herb Albert, Maria Callas and Mark Lindsey are?
the Truth?…..YES
Uhm, Santa? What Diane said. And yes, Diane, I know who Mark Lindsay is. I have to 45s to prove it!!
I know who Herb Alpert is, too! The founder of A&M Records, plus Mr. Tijuana Brass (and no, I did not just google it).
Kissed by a guy from Paul Revere and the Raiders?!? How cool is that?
I know! Diane just hit coolness superstardom! Megan you win the up on your obscure music info prize!
Kissed by a guy from Paul Revere and the Raiders?!? How cool is that?
Not the ORIGINAL Paul Revere and the Raiders…. I’m not THAT ageless.
Okay, how about this one. I saw (they played in a bar) the Chad Mitchell trio after Chad Mitchell left and was replaced by…John Denver. We sat about five feet from them.
I think it is safe to say that Diane is/was a musician groupie!!
ELENA — WOO HOO!! You rock, girl! You seriously do!!
