Megan’s not missing, but I needed the alliteration. She’s merely stuck in New Jersey and unable to blog today. So I thought it would be a good idea to go to a movie.
Like PS I Love You (I can’t believe that a Gerard Butler movie has been out for one week and I haven’t seen it yet. )
Or Sweeney Todd with the versatile Johnny Depp (Is there nothing Depp cannot do?)
Or Keira Knightly and dreamy James McAvoy in Atonement
Or Juno or Enchantment or National Treasure or The Golden Compass or….several more. This is a great week for movies. Have you seen any of these yet? (I haven’t seen a one, but I might get to PS I Love You tomorrow!)
If you could go to the movies tonight, which movie would you see?
How about all of the above? My perfect day would be spent in a cineplex watching each of these movies one after another. So many movies, so little time!
Great idea, Oh Doggy One!
I remember when I was a kid we could sit through the movie more than once.
I do have a plan to see PS I Love You Saturday! Yay!!
I would have to get over my great dislike of Hillary Swank to see PS I Love You, I think. π Haven’t seen Golden Compass or National Treasure, but the others are great. If you want fun, Enchantment; if you want deep sadness, Atonement!
Sweeny Todd because I saw it on Broadway ages ago and LURVED it. Dorothy Lamarr played the pie lady. Angela Landsbury was not there for some reason. Plus I want to see how they adapted it to the screen and besides Alan Rickman is in it as the delicious villian. It’s the Counte of Monte Cristo of Victorian England.
Though I adore Gerard Butler I can’t say I’m happy with the whole premise of the movie. And that’s all I can say without posting spoilers.
I really do want to see Enchanted but have been enjoying the footstomping music from ‘Hairspray’. What a FUN movie even with John Travolta in a dress – ather disconcerting actually.
I saw The Golden Compass and enjoyed it. It made me want to read the book which is always good. My son read it and said the movie did a pretty good job but ended before the climax in the book.
I don’t really understand the controversy. I received an e-mail from a “concerned parent” about “the creeping evil” being marketed to our children. IMO the film took a stance against religious authoritarian government not against religion per se, the Christian God, or spirituality.
Pullman has been quoted as saying he wanted to kill God. But don’t folks remember Nietzsche declared him dead a long time ago? And what about the 1966 Time cover saying the same thing?
I’d like to see Sweeney Todd. I’m a Tim Burton fan, even though with his films I’m never sure if I’m going to get a Big Fish π or Planet of the Apes π
Diane, I am SHOCKED that you haven’t yet seen PS I LOVE YOU!!! Aren’t you afraid that your Gerard fangirl license might be revoked??? π
Of those movies, I’ve seen Sweeney Todd (great! and bloody), Enchanted (very enjoyable), and Golden Compass. I found that to be gorgeous to look at, and well cast, but with too much plot squished into two hours. IMHO, if the DVD has a 3-hour director’s cut or something, I suspect it will be fab.
(As to the controversy… The movie itself says absolutely nothing about religion. The books are different (particularly the third book), but in the movie, the Magisterium seems to be some kind of secret government agency…)
Going back to the movies: movies I’m really keen on seeing soon include Atonement (still haven’t seen it! as I was away for a week) and Juno.
PS I Love You just doesn’t sound like my sort of movie… (Sorry, Diane! But wait, why am I apologizing — you haven’t even seen it yet!) π
Cara
Cara, I can totally understand that PS I Love You is not for everyone. My husband and daughter refused to go with me, which is why I waited so long!
Amanda, I did get over my dislike of Hilary Swank for this movie and I’m glad I did. Any movie that has Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gerard Butler, Harry Connick Jr. and James Marsters is a movie i have to see!
