Warning: Totally frivolous and useless post ahead! Some of you probably need a little break from the holiday craziness (like me!), so here are a few fun Internet finds to wile away some quiet moments as you plan your New Year’s Eve.
Cat Head Theater: Animated cats performing a scene from Hamlet ‘Nuff said.
A music video using scenes from Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and North and South. Kinda sappy (okay, really sappy), but fun!
An article on how to make your own green evening gown from Atonement, if you’re so inclined. And if you are, I’ll buy it from you! But will someone please give Keira Knightley a cheeseburger, immediately!!! (Bertie, can I count on you?)
Tartx jewelry–I think I’ve talked about this site before, but I just love it so am doing so again! The necklaces are beautiful, and the quality terrific, too (I own a couple of pendants, Marie Antoinette and Jane Austen, plus keep a wishlist there!)
Richard Armitage Online Because I got my own DVD of North and South for Christmas, and I’ve been watching it way more than is good for me this last week. It almost makes me want to write a Victorian-set story! Maybe I’ll rewatch P&P, too.
A short trailer for the movie The Duchess. I’m still trying to figure out if that bit with the pillared balcony is set at the assembly rooms in Bath (Diane and Deb, what do you think??)
Happy New Year, everyone! What are your resolutions? I have the usual. Go to yoga class more. Eat more vegetables (french fries don’t count). Write 10 pages a day. Okay, 8. And, for now, cut back on watching North and South. I also have a new dress for the New Year’s party, but sadly things on that holiday never seem to go like in that cheesy-but-great movie The Cutting Edge. You know–sparklers, music, a handsome hockey player-turned ice skater to kiss at midnight. But I have hopes for this year…
See you in 2008!
Isn’t North and South fantastic? I’ve watched it several times since I bought it and almost have it memorized now π Richard Armitage is amazing!
My New Year’s Eve is going to be filled with me, sis, Kiddo, and baby. Baby will sleep; the rest of us will play games and watch Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve.
Cat heads, cat heads, ruffy, puffy catheads. Catheads, catheads, see them act, hmm!
Okay, so I was going to post a comment, but got way sidetracked in the links. The Tartx site is incredible!
Changed my profile pic for the new year and had to check it out…
And aren’t you gorgeous, janegeorge!
Amanda, I don’t know if that was the Assembly Rooms or not…but it sure reminded me of them. Deb will know.
The catsheads are bizarre. But maybe The Duchess is more bizarre. I like Keira Knightly but she just isn’t the Duchess of Devonshire.
By the way, I went to see PS I Love You. I liked it a lot. Not a perfect movie but I did like it a lot.
I must get North and South…am I the only one who hasn’t seen it?
No, O Divine One, I have not seen North and South either. Must get it. Thanks, Amanda. Like I needed MORE sites to visit to keep me from writing! I am, however, doing a happy dance. My package from eHarlequin got here to day (Happy Birthday to Me!) and I have a fresh copy of The Vanishing Viscountess to enjoy tomorrow. It is my day off and I believe I have said I intend to spend the entire day in bed with romance novels, food that is bad for me, DVDs and three cats and two dogs!! Great photo janegeorge!!
O Doggy One, I am going to chew my nails until I hear if you liked The Vanishing Viscountess!
Have not seen North and South. Is it available on Netflix?
Thanks on the pic, ladies, although I thought the holly was mighty fine.
Have a fun day off, Doglady. That sounds like a perfect way to ring in a new year.
Me? Am going to boss’s party. Don’t ask. :-0 And I’m now saving for a Tartx bracelet. π
“Have not seen North and South. Is it available on Netflix?”
I first saw it from Netflix! But now I have my very own copy. π I highly, highly recommend it–Richard Armitage is yummy. π (And your new pic looks fabulous, Janegeorge!)
Well, I really don’t do resolutions, but I did think of something. I resolve to buy and read more books.
Lois. . . who knows that’s one she’ll keep. π
“I resolve to buy and read more books.”
Lois, I think I’ll add this to my list, too! Unlike “fewer french fries and more yoga” I can definitely stick to read more books. π
Any blog with links to Richard Armitage and Toby Stephens is fine by me and earns two thumbs up. As for Knightly as the Duchess of D, maybe not so much, although I do love costume dramas and so will try to keep an open mind. Also I’m feeling charitable toward her as I saw “Atonement” last night and thought she (and everyone else) did a superb job. The book is heartbreaking and beautiful, and the movie came very, very close to being as good.
Now I’m off to Borders to see if they have Ms. Gaston’s latest book so that I can be sure to start the new year properly.
Susan,
I hope your Borders does have my book! I just wrote my blog for tomorrow about how the bookstores in Williamsburg,VA. didn’t have my book!
By the way, I went to see PS I Love You.
Oh, good, Diane. You had me worried there for a moment.
Oh, and I haven’t seen North & South either!
Just got back from being away for a week and eating way too much and being rained on and watching lovely DVDs… Tomorrow, hopefully a movie or two!
Cara
I haven’t seen North and South either which makes three people in the universe who haven’t. Must do something about that in 2008. Maybe if Amanda sends her copy round, she’ll see less of it, we’ll have seen it and the world would be right and tight again.
And having never been to Bath I’ll go out on a limb and say I don’t think it’s the Assembly Rooms. And Amanda’s right, she does need a cheeseburger or two. I’d like to see Duchess but don’t see her as the Duchess of Devonshire either. Pretty hot trailer, though.
Have a happy New Year and all the best to every Risky here for 2008!
Oh and my copy of VV hasn’t arrived yet!
Amanda, have a faboo time in the new dress!
Santa, I think Amanda owes it to the Universe to send us her North and South DVD! Brilliant idea!
I hope your VV arrives safe and sound!
And I hope all have a fab New Years.
Now that I have a region-free DVD player, I plan to add to my Richard Armitage fixation by purchasing the Vicar of Dibley episodes where he played Dawn French’s love interest.
Cat head theater: very bizarre. My New Year’s resolution is to be better organized so that I can figure out my New Year’s resolutions before the New Year.
