My we were a quiet bunch last week. After the explosion of 59 comments to Keira’s guest blog, things became unusually quiet. Not only here but on the Wet Noodle Posse blog as well. And on my loops.
Many people were at RT, I’m sure, but I’ve been to RT and not that many people attend. Most of the Riskies were out of town. I think Janet and I were the only ones staying at home.
Because of the quiet, we’re going to extend our tagline contest. The new deadline is Wednesday, April 23.

What I’m Up To Next:
Next weekend is our Washington Romance Writers Spring Retreat. Usually we have the Retreat in Harpers Ferry, WV, in an old historic hotel called Hilltop House. In the last year, Hilltop House was sold to new owners who are busy renovating and WRW was out of the location that has housed the Retreat continously since about 1998 (and many years before that). Our Board and Retreat Committee did a masterful job of finding The Bolger Center, in very nearby Potomac, MD. It is costing us more, but at least we will be able to meet.
Our main speakers are Victoria Alexander and Kresley Cole (see Kresley’s Author Talk interview here) and we’ll have workshops by Margie Lawson, Pam Spengler-Jaffee, Director of Publicity, Paperbacks at William Morrow/Avon, Karen Rose, Mariah Stewart, and our own talented members…Elizabeth Holcombe, Kathleen Gilles Seidel, and Denise McInerney. We also put our visiting agents (Elaine English, Emmanuelle Alspaugh, Becca Stumpf) and editors (Tracy Farrell, Lucia Macro, Kate Duffy, and Jennifer Enderlin) to work on workshop panels and in individual and group interviews. Kathleen Gilles Seidel always opens the Retreat with a terrific speech and Nora Roberts closes with one equally terrific…but different.
Anything you want me to find out for you at the Retreat? Anything besides discovering if O Doggie One (aka doglady) wins the Historical category of the Marlene, that is?
How about all of the above? I would love to learn more about research, your lives in writing, the craft itself, trips to wonderful places, and some guest bloggers as well!
I am pea green with envy over your weekend retreat, O Divine One. It sounds fantastic from location to guest speakers, to workshops!
I just hope my computer is out of the shop by Saturday. You aren’t the only one who wants to know if O Doggie One is fortunate enough to win the Marlene Historical Category!!

Oh, Cara, YES! with those wonderful Barbosa prints all over it. I’d so buy that one and even take it to public places.
My husband was talking about taking his lunch to work. I said, “What will you carry it in?” He said, “That lunch box you got at your thing. (he’s articulate that way)” I said (thinking of an insulated bag I got at New Jersey Romance Writers or some place) “What bag?”
He said, “the one you won at the conference.”
He’s buying his lunch….

I generally find all the blog posts entertaining, though recently I’ve been too busy to comment every day. 🙁 I’m not a writer, but I happen to live with one (what a coincidence!), and I’m always interested to hear about the Writing Life.
No sacrilege implied, but I, too, would rather have a Mulder and Scully lunchbox than a 300 one. With the new X-Files movie coming out, maybe they’ll release a new batch of Mulder and Scully merchandise! 🙂 Still, I can understand your husband’s confusion…the idea of carrying a lunch in a lunch box might well occur to some of the more literal-minded brethren.

Doesn’t your husband know there are things for use around the house and ‘things for show’? You know, like those rose shaped soaps in the bathroom? Love the lunchboxes but I’m with Todd on this one. Give me Mulder and Scully. I miss them so. For some reason I can’t watch the repeats. Weird, huh?
As you all know, I love this blogfest as it is. I would love to see more about the craft of writing. I love the tidbits you share about the research you do and would love to see more.
I also love to hear the latest and greatest from any conferences anyone attends. Sometimes there are pearls of wisdom to be shucked.
I also love glances at WIPs, if you are comfortable in doing so. Megan’s recent post has me hankering for more but I know how hard it is to do that.
If glimpses of WIP are not to everyone’s taste then by all means have a release fest with excerpts and goodies.
LOVE the Jane Austen club. Perhaps we can talk about Jane Ausen spin-offs or new releases of the books or movies. I’d rather enjoy chatting about any period piece movies – new and old.
Oh, and I do love your guest bloggers. More please. Author Sundays is always a treat. I can’t wait to see what Sally has to say. I love her books.
