I’m home but already missing my friends from RWA.
This was such a special conference, because for the first time EVER all the Riskies were in one place at the same time AND so many of our Risky friends were also there.
On Tuesday of last week Keira and I spent the day walking around San Francisco and, yes, we did walk up and down hills. Our last stop was at Pier 22 (or something) and here is the proof.
Wednesday was the Beau Monde HHRW Conference and Amanda and Megan and Risky friend Andrea Pickens held a workshop on how to make your historical time period come alive. Amanda brought along Shakespeare and Jane Austen.
Then there was the Soiree, where Louisa aka doglady aka Pam won her category in the Royal Ascot.
Here is lovely and elegant Risky pal janegeorge and our Risky friend, the equally elegant Julia Justiss
Here is Julia again, Louisa, AMANDA, and the beautiful Indian princess, Keira
O Doggie One (Louisa) and me
I pretty much stopped taking photos from there. Here, though is a photo of Amanda, Deb Marlowe and Me at the Harlequin Party.
And, finally, all the Riskies. From Left to right: Elena, Cara, Diane, Amanda, Janet and Megan.
What would you like to know about RWA? We’d be glad to share.
Come visit Diane at her website and read the newly posted excerpt of Scandalizing the Ton and enter her new contest!
Great excerpt, Diane! Looking forward to Pomroy’s story. And would love to hear more about your adventures in SF! It certainly looks like it was fun!

Ahhh–good times! 🙂
Glad to hear you got home safely, Diane. I can’t wait for another Risky reunion next year
Thanks for all the pics, Diane!
As I was unpacking I glanced at my camera and realized I loaded it incorrectly (my meanie husband wouldn’t let me take the digital) and so none of my pics came out. Waaaaaaaah!!!!
But it was a fantastic conference in so many ways. 🙂
My camera lens got dirty so all my photos have round circles here and there.
Ladyhawk…what can I think of to say about RWA? I didn’t get to many of the workshops, but I’ve heard the special ones, the one on Creativity and the one on Scriptwriting were very good.
I went to the Harlequin panel where the Harlequin bigwigs meet with the authors. Sales are up by double digits at Harlequin, so everybody was very happy. I didn’t go to any other publisher meetings so I don’t know what anyone else is looking for. Harlequin is looking for new authors for its lines, though.
The Riskies had a nice time eating breakfast with those hearty souls who arose early enough for our breakfast.
Amanda and I went to a very cool place for the Harlequin Historical authors. It was called Tal y Tara (http://www.talytara.com/polo.html) a tea shoppe and equestrian shop, family run and using some of the same plates manufactured by their ancestors to serve the sandwiches. Very cool.
The Mills & Boon editors are all so nice and so enthusiastic and so British!!!
I’m glad you had such a great time Diane, and shared your lovely photos!
I wanted to say that I loved your new excerpt as well. It’s exciting to see your new upcoming book featured.
By the way, How did you like your new cover for Scandalizing the Ton?
Ack, Elena!!! What tragedy!!!!
Well, I will share pics soon… And hopefully between all of us, you’ll hardly miss them.
BTW, love all your photos, Diane!
And doesn’t Amanda look gorgeous???
Cara
Thanks, Ladyhawke and Mallory. I’m glad you like the excerpt. Check my website next month to see how to get the book early!
What a fantastic group pic of all you Riskies all dressed up.
I especially enjoyed sharing the dance floor with Lord McCabe.
I have a great need to give a shout out and thank you to Kalen Hughes who roped her re-enactor pals into making the Beau Monde & Hearts Thru History Historical Conference truly something special.
And when I returned to my room and informed my roomies I was wasted, I was being quite literal. Kalen’s Gentleman’s Tipple class was not only uniquely informative but highly enjoyable as well!
Thank you so much for sharing the pictures! Can I say what a joy it is to see dear Louisa in all her finery with all of you!! 🙂
I am so glad to hear that everyone is home, safe and sound. The entire Beau Monde Conference was just fabulous. The workshops, the breakfast, the luncheon, the keynote speaker, the tea, the auction and the soiree. It was all just wonderful. I was SO excited to meet all of the Riskies and friends in person!! Especially, of course, my dear guardian angel, O Divine One – Diane Gaston!! Thank you for posting the lovely photos!! This was my first conference and I must say that the next one has MUCH to live up to! Everyone was so friendly and helpful and it was just so much fun!!! The Riskies are some of the classiest, sweetest, funniest and most enthusiastic ladies I have ever known. It is such a privilege to count you as my friends. (P.S. Do NOT play Commerce with the Divine One! She is a card sharp! And I think she is training Keira to be one too!)
