Short post today because I have spotty internet access!
I started To Wed a Stranger by Edith Layton in order to prepare for Carolyn’s Risky Read-Along. I intended to read a little each day, like I usually do, and I expected to be behind in my reading as I usually am.
But I literally could not put this book down. I can’t wait for the Read-Along to begin!
While I was poking around the internet for information about Edith Layton, I came across this write-up on Wikipedia. Subject: Regency Novel: “Georgette Heyer, Barbara Metzger, Joan Smith, Marion Chesney, Mary Balogh, Jo Beverley, Nancy Butler, Lisa Kleypas, Stephanie Laurens…. Amanda McCabe and Julia Quinn.”
Our Amanda in such exalted company!!!! Now that’s just where she belongs.
What was the last book you read that you could not put down?
Are you prepared for the Risky Read-Along?
The last book I couldn’t put down was Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson. I picked it up, meaning to read a couple of chapters and ended up finishing it without stopping. It’s such a fun, frothy book, and I like the film too, even though they changed certain things in the story.
Oh, I love Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day! Such a perfect confection of a story.
The last book I couldn’t put down was A Dance With Dragons, though I’m not being quite literal there since the book is so LONG. I started it Monday afternoon and finished it late Thursday evening. I read through all my meals, while I waited for elevators, on the bus, while stirring dinner, etc.
I love stories where I can immerse myself in, the last book I read and gave up many hours of sleep to isn’t a Regency but a women’s fiction. Night Road by Kristin Hannah. I will be reading either a Julia Quinn or Lisa Kleypas novel soon and hope one of these books steal more of my sleep hours =)
LOL! Thanks so much for letting me know about that, Diane. :))
I haven’t read “Miss Pettigrew” but I totally loved the movie! I just started reading Amanda Foreman’s “World on Fire,” which is so massive there is no way I could read it in one sitting, but so far it is great…
The last book I couldn’t put down was Christina Brooke’s Heiress in Love. A real jewel of a love story with a swoon-worthy hero!
I’m glad you reminded me, O Divine One! I need to find my copy of our read-a-long book! It is in a rubbermaid tote somewhere as I have boxed up all of the books to move them into what will be my library/writing studio. Waiting for the bookcases to all be moved into the room.
I love that we all have books we cannot put down. I was charmed by the movie Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Now I’m thinking I should read the book.
The World on Fire sounds fascinating, Amanda.
I hope everyone will be ready for Carolyn’s Read Along!
