I stumbled across a reasonably affordable copy of The Regency Companion and bought it. Maybe the library had two since the stamp says “Outdated or Redundant.”

Ah. Research. Very timely as I am about to embark on The Next Historical.
Still, I decided to have a little fun with this book, so I rearranged some of the sentences.

That’s exactly where I got my copy–in a discard box at the library for .50!! I love library book sales…

When I first started writing Regency, I tried to get a copy of this book but they were all too expensive. Since then I’ve acquired a decent home research library and a borrower’s card at a local university and decided I was managing OK without The Regency Companion. Now I’m curious. Does it really have information that can’t be found elsewhere?
What a coup! I’ve seen the Regency Companion for sale for as much as $400! I suspect you did not pay that much. I remember getting my copy on ebay on a Thanksgiving Day when I stayed up til midnight to be sure I was the highest bidder. That was a number of years ago and before those programs that do the bidding automatically.
The book is a wonderful overview of the Regency, but I rarely look at it anymore.
It does, Elena. Both it, and The Rise of the Eglairarian Family, are foundational IMO. Get it ILL if you can.
