You’re like my mother. She’s traveled all over the world and all she does is take pictures of the flowers. I think the funniest one was when she went to Tuscany and instead of taking a picture of the bright sunflowers in bloom, She took a picture of all the sunflowers dead. It’s very poetic.

Gorgeous pics. The first rose really does look like it has honey dripping off it. If I could take decent pictures, they’d probably be of bugs. We had a plague of daddy-long-legs this year (actually, I like them, so I guess it’s not fair to call them a plague). It’s the only time I’ve ever seen them in twos and threes.
Those pictures are gorgeous, and worth posting even without a deadline!

We deduce: Carolyn’s mysteries are all botanical. Nothing zoological, gastronomical, or homicidal in her conundrums.
And: I think there should be some kind of duelling author deadline game, whereby the author who skates closest without calling chicken wins. Would be a great spectator sport. You know, for those of us who don’t write for a living, and who aren’t those authors’ publishers.

Here’s the answers:
1. Honey Dijon rose

3. Pink Pearl apple blossoms (the apples are pink inside, very yummy!)
3. The middle bit of a sunflower.
4. A dahlia
5. A raindrop on a plum blossom bud
6. Sterling Silver rose. The MOST beautiful rose ever. As others pointed out, this is just an incredible color. It likes lots of sun, so we get iffy results as sometime there’s not enough sun for really great blossoms. This summer was good to the rose, though.
Interesting story about this rose: When Jackie Kennedy married John Kennedy, she wanted Sterling Silver roses for the wedding. And it turns out the only nursery that had them was in my home town of Petaluma.
