To distract you from the fact that I have no post (some of you may know that I have a book due November 1st) —
Note to Self: Arrange to post here on a day when Amanda doesn’t post the day before. She has an 11/1 deadline, too, and she has this factual, interesting totally awesome post. I have this. But I bet my deadline is much deader than hers. Or maybe it’s me that’s dead.

Here are some pretty pictures:
Blogger making this smaller doesn’t do justice to the photo, I’m afraid. But this rose is called Honey Dijon.
OK, to make this go faster, I am now choosing random photos. Oh my God, this is so fun! What will show up?
Mystery Photo #1
Yeah. So guess what I like to take pictures of?
ETA: I think everyone should just guess what the pictures are of. Wackiness wins points. Hint: Plants.
P.S. I took all these pictures at my house.
P.P.S. The deadline is still killing me.
You’re like my mother. She’s traveled all over the world and all she does is take pictures of the flowers. I think the funniest one was when she went to Tuscany and instead of taking a picture of the bright sunflowers in bloom, She took a picture of all the sunflowers dead. It’s very poetic.
You took these pictures??? They are gorgeous.
My deadline is crawling forward–just wrote a big fire scene. 🙂 The Risky posts make a good break from my annoying characters…
The last rose is so beautiful! All these photos are lovely, though. I thought you got them off the ‘net!
I’ll try not being wacky and identifying: rose, iris, azalea, sunflower, zinnia, a stick, and the most beautiful rose I’ve ever seen!
You have a good eye the photos are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I guess if the deadline is killing you, you’re not dead yet. And that’s good news!!
Gorgeous pics. The first rose really does look like it has honey dripping off it. If I could take decent pictures, they’d probably be of bugs. We had a plague of daddy-long-legs this year (actually, I like them, so I guess it’s not fair to call them a plague). It’s the only time I’ve ever seen them in twos and threes.
Those pictures are gorgeous, and worth posting even without a deadline!
Good luck, and maybe your son will get you . . . flowers when the deadline is met?
We deduce: Carolyn’s mysteries are all botanical. Nothing zoological, gastronomical, or homicidal in her conundrums.
And: I think there should be some kind of duelling author deadline game, whereby the author who skates closest without calling chicken wins. Would be a great spectator sport. You know, for those of us who don’t write for a living, and who aren’t those authors’ publishers.
Oh, just what I need when my garden is frost-bitten and I’m wearing sweaters and slipper-socks to keep from becoming the same! You have an excellent eye—and that lavender rose is exquisite.Good luck with the deadline.
@barbara Monajem: Twos and threes? Well. You KNOW what they were doing.
Carolyn — Threes? Tsk. Kinky little critters — who knew?
The purple iris is so rich, gorgeous!
1 apple blossom azalea,
2. sunflowettes,
3. cardinal dahlia
4. a dewed naked twig
5. lovely lavender rose
OK, you’ve goofed off. Back to work, the deadline looms. It was a good break.
Good luck with the book.
Thanks everyone for all the great comments!
Here’s the answers:
1. Honey Dijon rose
2. Iris
3. Pink Pearl apple blossoms (the apples are pink inside, very yummy!)
3. The middle bit of a sunflower.
4. A dahlia
5. A raindrop on a plum blossom bud
6. Sterling Silver rose. The MOST beautiful rose ever. As others pointed out, this is just an incredible color. It likes lots of sun, so we get iffy results as sometime there’s not enough sun for really great blossoms. This summer was good to the rose, though.
Interesting story about this rose: When Jackie Kennedy married John Kennedy, she wanted Sterling Silver roses for the wedding. And it turns out the only nursery that had them was in my home town of Petaluma.
@libraryPat, wow, you know your flowers!
