I don’t do this too often so today I’m talking about me!me!me!
First off, the DA BWAHAHA Tournament kicks off its voting today, at Smart Bitches Trashy Books and Dear Author. I have, ahem, two books–The Rules of Gentility and Forbidden Shores, in historical and erotic category respectively. So check in at both locations and vote for me–
UPDATE, FRIDAY 3/21: I’m up again–Vote for Forbidden Shores before 3:00EST today at Dear Author. Thanks!
Pause for rant. I get very annoyed by being asked to vote for books I haven’t read by people I may not know on a zillion different places online. Do I vote because I like the person who wrote the book or the person who asked me to vote? What if I like or know either of them but thought the book was rubbish? Or hadn’t read it?
Well, now that’s your problem. Share your views on this phenomenon, if you like…
And now for the big news–I have a three-book contract with Little Black Dress (UK) for more Regency chicklit, who are also publishing their edition of The Rules this September. I’m their first historical writer. I don’t know when the first of the three books will be out but the heroine (a very naughty girl) is Caroline, who makes a brief appearance in The Rules, trying to get into Inigo’s (tight) trousers.
I’m in good company at LBD, with talented writers like Julie Cohen (who by an odd coincidence is one of my CP’s best friends and lives in my home town of Reading). Her latest LBD book One Night Stand is set in Reading, the town where Oscar Wilde went to goal and Jane Austen to school (or, as I like to say, possibly the other way round).
Bad news is LBD titles aren’t distributed in the US–but you’ll be able to buy them on amazon.co.uk and at LBD’s site.
So I’m celebrating!
Janet, YEAH YEAH on the Little Black Dress. I’m dying to read Julie Cohen’s and Lorelei Mathias’s books. There’s also Kristin Harmel, Eileen Dreyer, and the list goes on. They do such beautiful covers. Wish they’d figure out a distribution channel for the U.S.
Glad to know that you’re nominated twice for the DABWAHA contest. The name always makes me laugh.
Congratulations on your new contract!
Congratulations, Janet, that is great news!
Since your column makes it okay to be all about me, me, me, let me pose a question and answer about your new book contract:
Q: What’s in it for me?
A: Lots more book reading pleasure
Congratulations! Just be sure to post here when the books come out so I can dash over to Amazon.co.uk and order them lickety split.
As to the voting, I commented over at DearAuthor that I’m nonplussed. Haven’t read either book in one category, and thought your book and Elizabeth Hoyt’s were so different they really can’t be compared (liked both very much, BTW). What I really want to do is vote for neither in one category and both in the second, but it doesn’t work that way.
I’m happy to vote for Rules…and did.
And I’m THRILLED at your new contract! Little Red Dress is going to love you and I hope the NA publishers start an auction for the NA rights to the books.
Congratulations on your new contract! Boo that they won’t be available here….for now! 😉
I’ll pop by and vote for your fab books!
Thanks for the votes–I was creamed, but had an honorable showing; and I agree, Susan, it was rather an odd pairing–angst vs. schmaltz.
And thanks for the congrats on the contracts. Rest assured I shall keep you informed–and I’m really looking forward to seeing the Brit. cover for The Rules.
Congratulations on the nominations and especially on the LBD contract!
YAY on your new contract!!!
Cara
Congrats on your book deal. I’m pretty easy, if you tell me to vote for you I will.
“I’m pretty easy, if you tell me to vote for you I will.”
LOL, Jane! You will probably be sorry you told us that. Now we will send you out to vote all the time. 🙂
Speaking of voting, I spent too long voting for who is the fugliest on Go Fug Yourself and missed the deadline on yours! They have some weird matchups, anyway. And congrats on the sale!!!! I hope we can get them here very soon–that looks like a great line.
I would vote for Rules anytime, anywhere. I LOVED that book! Huge congrats on the new contract and I have no qualms about ordering books from Amazon.UK when it comes to getting a good read!
Janet,
Congrats on the Little Black Dress contract!

Congrats Janet on your new contract with LBD.
Several of my friends write for them — Julie Cohen, Philippa Ashley and Nell Dixon. I also know Catherine Jones who writes as Kate Lace.
Pip’s book Decent Exposure has been optioned by a major US movie company, so you never know if LBD will end up with US distribution…
