Well, not ALL is well, because Risky Regencies is bidding a fond adieu to Megan and Myretta, who both are needing to put their energies elsewhere in their busy lives. We will miss them terribly. It is not really a goodbye, though, because we can find them on Twitter and Facebook and their own websites. Who knows? We might even be able to entice them back for some guest posts. We wish them all the best!
But one good thing is that my dh, who spent Christmas in the hospital, came home the day after and is feeling pretty good. He had a horrible Christmas, but the rest of us made the best of a bad situation and managed to have some nice moments, like watching my 18 month old grandson open presents.
Amazingly now at home the dh is up and around, so I don’t have to reenact this scene:
I’m so glad I only live in Regency times in my imagination! In reality, during Regency times, there was no knowledge of bacteria, no penicillin or other antibiotics. My husband would have been tended at home and the treatment would have been bleeding, warm baths and purgatives (laxatives – ick!). In all likelihood he would not have survived.
He probably won’t be well enough for us to go out celebrating on New Year’s Eve, but, then, we never go out on New Year’s Eve. We stay at home and treat it like a regular night. This year, though, I’ll be saying a grateful prayer that the dh is home and well. I’d even be willing to read to him, if he could stand it!
Has illness ever spoiled a holiday for you?
That’s great DH is home well and up and about. And of course those two ladies will be back for guest posts. Why wouldn’t they? 🙂
As for being sick on a holiday…. Never happened during Christmas or New Years but it had happened during the July Fourth celebration. Couldn’t eat all the good food and hang with the cousins and watch fireworks. Booo
I am so very glad the DH is home! Good heavens! My internet goes wonky for a few days and all sorts of horrible things happen.
I shall miss Megan and Myretta dreadfully, but I do understand how life can get a bit overwhelming from time to time. I sincerely hope they stop by whenever they can as I always love their posts.
Two out of the past five years I have fallen ill during the Christmas holidays. One of those years I fell ill after being up all night working the Black Friday sale. I returned to work too soon and ended up dragging myself through the month of December and Christmas only to succumb to pneumonia the day after Christmas and ordered by the doctor to take a week’s bed rest, which included my birthday.
The next year I ended up with pneumonia again and once more spent a week in bed, including my birthday.
This year, I have been very fortunate. I hope my luck holds!
And I hope the DH is truly on the mend, O Divine One!
Best wishes to Megan and Myretta. So happy to hear DH is home and improving. I’m one of those who wouldn’t be alive without penicillin. I recently discovered it wasn’t used in an American hospital until 1942. Two years ago, I was ill, but I was housesitting, so it didn’t really matter. The dog I was caring for didn’t mind the lazing about. 🙂 May your DH continue to heal swiftly.
I’m so glad your husband is feeling better, Diane.
This year my oldest is a bit sick and won’t be able to go with her sister to a friend’s party. However, we will have a nice dinner and then drink tea while watching the Ruth Wilson/Toby Stephens version of Jane Eyre.
